New to the 2010 Buick line-up is the Buick LaCrosse
By Thomas Rosquin of Jazel Auto
GM has finally added a more fuel efficient front wheel drive, four cylinder luxury sports sedan into the mix. The Buick LaCrosse sedan has been totally redesigned for the 2010 model year and will also be sold in China as well as the U.S. This offering from Buick is meant to target the “near-luxury” crowd. The vehicle platform that the LaCrosse was built on is the Epsilon; which is also used in the manufacturing of Opel automobiles. It comes in three levels, the CX, the CXL and CXS trim levels. The CX is the base model level. Step up to the CLX level and you get the mid-level 3-liter V-6 engine, heated leather seats, climate control, fog lights, and 18-inch wheels. Finally at the top of the LaCrosse spectrum is the CXS which has a powerful 3.6 liter V-6 engine that puts out 280 HP. You get all the bells and whistles and the option of all-wheel drive. A recent addition to the engine line-up for the LaCrosse is a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine that will no doubt be available for those with fuel economy in mind. The new design direction Buick is taking really lends itself to a younger audience. The average Buick owner's age was well over 40 years old. So the new direction was to create a vehicle line that appealed to a younger audience. This was achieved by ditching the large displacement V-8 engines and replacing them with fuel efficient engines. This is evident in the fact that a small 4-cylinder is offered for the first time in Buick's history. The 2.4 liter engine generates 182 horsepower and 172 lb-ft. of torque. This may not be too much for a luxury car but the 6-speed transmission helps with acceleration. The good part about the 4-cylinder engine is the gas mileage ratings which are 25 MPG in the city and a whopping 36 MPG on the highway. The interior is all Buick luxury. At first you are soothed by a nice ambient light. The interior cabin has been given the "quiettuning" technology treatment. Both the driver and passenger seats are heated and cooled. A panoramic sunroof is an added option. And finally the sound system is Blue-Tooth enabled. The LaCrosse also has some great safety features. There is an Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist that helps you back-up making sure you do not hit another car. There is a side blind zone alert that will help the driver make safe lane changes. There is a heads up display that shows vital vehicle info allowing the driver's eyes to remain on the road. And of course every GM car comes equipped with On Star. So anytime there is an accident or emergency; On Star will immediately send help! Prices for the Buick LaCrosse range from $27k to $33k for the CXS level.
